There are many common myths as to why red roses cost more this time of the year. It’s not because we’re greedy or that our suppliers “jack up” the prices because they’re greedy.
Here are  some simple facts.

  • It takes 11 to 12 weeks to grow a premium long stem red rose.
  • There are 3 major holidays that follow one another in winter that increases the demand for red roses.
  • The first is Christmas. Many growers are forced to sacrifice selling red roses at Christmas to supply the demand for roses at Valentine’s Day.
  • International Woman’s Day is celebrated on March 8 in Russia & 72 other countries. There is a huge global demand for red roses just 3 weeks after our Valentines Day holiday. This means that many South American rose growers time their crops for this holiday rather than for Valentine’s or Mother’s Day in the US and Canada, thus reducing supplies for North America.
  • Transportation costs more. Holiday( fuel) surcharges are up over last year as are airline costs from Columbia & Ecuador.

While red roses are very traditional, they are not the only flower appropriate to send for Valentine’s Day

We  have  a beautiful selection of roses in all colors…yellow, pink, lavender & our all time favorite, orange.  Spring flowers… iris, daffodils & tulips in all different colors are wonderful especially after all the harsh weather we have been having. They are a reminder that spring is around the corner & to just be patient. Gerbera daisies, alstomeria, lily’s, stock, orchids & hydrangeas are also popular choices. We also carry delicious chocolates, Asher’s & Godiva, stuffed animals &  balloons to make you Valentine feel special.

You can call or come in. Our staff is always happy to assist you.
