the 3/50 project

25 August, 2009

Every once in a while I come across an idea that totally captivates me. The 3/50 project did just that when I read about it.

This is the brain child of retail consultant & speaker Cynthia Baxter.

On her website www.the350project.net,  she asks the simple question:

“What 3 independently owned business’s would you miss if they disappeared?”

Then she goes on to say: ” If half the employed population spent $50 each month in locally owned independent businesses,  it would generate more than 4.26 billion in revenue.  ” Imagine the positive impact on small local stores if 3/4 of the employed population did that?

She goes on to say that for every $100 spent in locally owned independent stores, $68 returns to the community through taxes, payroll, & other expenditures. If you spend that in a national chain, only $43 stays here. Spend it online & nothing comes home.

Remember… Pick 3. Spend 50. Save your local economy.

I hope when you do this you’ll include Sally’s Flowers as one of your choices.
